Barrow AFC player Sam Hird will host a virtual quiz for supporters in a bid to support fans with their mental health during the coronavirus pandemic.

The event will be the first in a series as part of an English Football League campaign with mental health charity Mind, as well as in association with the Community Sports Trust.

The club also plans to hold virtual team talks to ensure that fans have the opportunity to stay connected during the third national lockdown.

The Bluebirds' official website said Hird had put together quizzes for the squad and added that the project will be led by Craig Rutherford, the Community Sports Trust manager.

The quiz will take place on Zoom at 7.30pm as a pilot, with up to 100 fans able to take part as long as they register in advance by sending an email with the title 'Team Talk' to media@barrowafc.com

A club statement said: "We’ll then take feedback from those who were in attendance and look to put on weekly sessions for supporters who would love to get together virtually on a regular basis to talk about all things Bluebirds!"

The 'Team Talk' campaign was launched by the EFL and Mind last month with a view to tackling concerns around mental health.
