A SERIOUS house fire in Barrow which emergency services tackled for four hours was "frightening" to neighbours.

Three fire engines were called out to a house fire in Whinlatter Drive in Barrow yesterday afternoon at 3.34pm.

Police have since confirmed that a woman died following the fire.

One neighbour said: “It’s really sad. It’s quite frightening that something like that’s happened.”

Another resident said he saw emergency vehicles, police and fire engines, go past his window rushing to attend to the incident.

Fire fighters used one hose reel, two breathing apparatus, one thermal imaging camera and one positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire.
