We’ve been dusting off the January archives this week and uncovered lots of photographs from pantomimes in years gone-by – oh, yes, we have!
Lots of community groups and theatre clubs put on this traditional family entertainment each year with its classic characters of principal boy, played by a female and the comedy Dame, played by a
man.
Most pantos include plenty of song and dance, jokes and a host of slapstick comedy and audience participation.
Our album shows some of the best-known pantomimes like Sleeping Beauty put on by Brampton Players in 1985 and Carlisle’s Green Room Club production of Cinderella in 1973.
The St Aidan’s church group also staged a popular
production of Sinbad the Sailor in 1985.
