A SCOTTISH comedian has said she cannot wait to return to the Lake District after she visited the area while filming her new travel show.

Susan Calman took to the roads in her trusty campervan ‘Helen Mirren’ during Channel 5 programme Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out.

During her adventure around the UK she visited the Lake District, where she stayed the night at the eerie Muncaster Castle, experienced Ullswater on 19th century ‘Lady of the Lake,’ alongside Ullswater Steamers’ skipper Graeme Connacher and pushed Helen to the limits on Honister Pass.

A regular visitor to the area during normal times, Ms Calman said the Lake District is a first port of call for her and her wife when they need time away.

“I’ve visited the Lake District many times and I love it,” she said.

“It’s a first call for me and my wife when we want some time away.

“I’ll be back just as soon as I can.

“There’s a wonderful book festival in Keswick that I’ve had the pleasure of speaking at a couple of times and I’ve also enjoyed a few long weekends in the fabulous hotels that the area has.”

The comedian, actress and writer revealed her favourite part of the trip.

“I loved everything about the show to be honest,” she said.

“But if I had to pick one thing I think it would be the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.

“It was so beautiful.”

Ms Calman also revealed she is looking forward to sampling more of the county’s culinary offerings after she met many of the area’s top chefs during the Great British Menu.

“When I presented Great British Menu I met some amazing chefs from the area so I want to go and experience the wonderful food that they cook,” she said.

“I had a wonderful time at The Gilpin last time I visited so I’d like to go back there as well.”

Fans will also be glad to hear that campervan Helen is in full working order after her adventures and is ready for future expeditions.

“Helen is sitting waiting patiently for a new adventure,” said Ms Calman.

“Hopefully we’ll be on the road again soon.”

The Bafta winner says she is hoping for another series of the hit show and is currently keeping busy and writing scripts.
