Barrow AFC's scouting team has a new face at the helm.

The club confirmed yesterday that Paul Ogden has joined the club in the chief scout role.

Ogden, who was a player with Port Vale and went on to enjoy a managerial career with clubs including Leek Town and Northwich Victoria, has also previously worked with the Bluebirds in a scouting capacity.

Speaking to the club's website, Ogden said: “I have been at other clubs in the past, but I have always felt at home at Barrow and with the supporters of this club.

“All I want to do now is do everything I possibly can to help ensure that Barrow maintains its position in the Football League – we know it’s a big challenge, but I feel confident.

“I know we have the right man for the job, and I have been working with Michael to try and bring extra strength into the squad, which we have to do in very difficult circumstances given the impact of Covid-19.

“The chief scout role is a very challenging one but hopefully I can play a major part in supporting Michael and we can all get behind him to achieve our objectives.”

Ogden's new role will see him work alongside Michael Jolley to identify targets which can be brought into the squad and enhance the playing talent available to the manager.

The Bluebirds have already been busy in the current transfer window, adding five new signings to the squad as they look to boost their chances of achieving survival in League Two.

The window is set to remain open for another 11 days with the opportunity for Jolley and the recruitment team to keep building on their work so far.

Meanwhile, the club said its first 'Team Talk' session last week was a success.

The sessions aim to tackle mental health issues and keep communication going in the fanbase.

Sam Hird presented a virtual quiz for supporters and the club has now encouraged fans who would like to take part in this week's event tomorrow night to get in touch by emailing media@barrowafc.com
