A DATE stone of 1836 set into the wall of a house in Ann Street.
The latin inscription “Quis putaret” is a bit of a mystery in that it appears to translate into into English as “Who would think”.
John Wood’s map of 1833 shows Ann Street from Castle Street being only about a quarter of it’s current length.
But twenty years later Henry Hoggarth shows the full street as it is today.
