SOUTH Lakeland has the second lowest weekly Covid-19 infection rate in Cumbria.

Public Health data has revealed that South Lakeland has one of the lowest coronavirus infection rate in the county.

In the week ending February 18, South Lakeland recorded 72 cases of Covid-19, down from 18 per cent in the previous week.

This gives the area a rolling infection rate of 68.5 per 100,000 cases - well below the national average of 121.

The majority of areas within South Lakeland also fell below the country's average infection rate.

Kendal Town & Greenside has a weekly infection rate of 47.4, after recording four new cases in the week ending February 18.

Kendal North & Burneside recorded five new cases in the same week, giving the area a below average weekly rolling rate of 56.7.

Kendal East & Whinfell has a weekly infection rate of 101.2 after eight new positive cases were recorded.

Burton-in-Kendal, Levens & Natland has a weekly rolling rate of 40.5, after three people tested positive for Covid-19.

Arnside, Milnthorpe & Holme recorded ten new cases, giving the area an above average infection rate of 124.8 after there were ten confirmed cases of Covid-19.

Grange & Cartmel Peninsula and Windermere North, Ambleside & Langdales both recorded less than three cases in one week.

Windermere South & Staveley recorded nine new cases of coronavirus in the week ending February 18, down from 25 per cent in the previous week.

This gave the area a weekly infection rate of 109 per 100,000

Sedbergh & Kirkby Lonsdale had ten confirmed cases of Covid-19, giving the area a below average infection rate of 64.5.

Barrow currently has the highest weekly infection rate at 173 cases per 100,000 people, after recording 116 cases in the week ending February 18.

Allerdale is the second worst area in Cumbria, with a rolling infection rate of 146.3, after there were 143 recorded cases of Covid-19 in the area.

This is followed by Copeland, which has a rolling rate of 142.3 and Carlisle at 107.7 per 100,000 people.

Eden has the second lowest infection rate in Cumbria at 60.1 per 100,000 cases after recording just 32 positive cases in one week.
