A CORONER said a hotel restaurant manager who took his own life would be ‘greatly missed’.

Bilghin Abibula died in hospital days after he attempted to end his life, Cockermouth Coroner’s Court was told.

Mr Abibula was the restaurant manager at The Gilpin Hotel and Lake House in Windermere and lived in staff accommodation there with his brother.

The inquest heard that Mr Abibula died aged 30 on September 5 having been taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary for treatment.

Days prior he had been found by his brother and another colleague hanged in woodland close to where hotel staff members lived.

He later died in hospital having sustained brain damage, the court heard.

The coroner was told that Mr Abibula had moved from Romania to the UK four years ago alongside his brother Tekyn to be able to provide more financial support to their mother.

They lived together in a caravan for hotel staff.

In a statement read at the inquest Tekyn Abibula described how his brother had left the caravan to ‘play video games’ at the staff house in the afternoon and had returned to the caravan around 10.30pm.

After going back to sleep, Tekyn was later alerted by Anbuta Zaharia, a colleague a former partner of Bilghin Abibula, that his brother may be wishing to take his own life and had gone missing.

She told the inquest the pair had split up five months before Mr Abibula’s death and he had told her on the night of the incident that he loved her.

She said he sent her a text suggesting he was going to take his own life.

Assistant coroner for Cumbria Craig Smith recorded a conclusion of suicide, saying the text was ‘an indicator of intent’.

He said: “His deeply tragic and untimely death will impact greatly on his family, colleagues, friends and he will be missed by them all.”
