A musician is releasing a song to mark the 100th birthday of the man who set multiple absolute world speed records in the 1950s and 1960s.

Donald Campbell died during a record attempt on Coniston Water in 1967.

Musician Sophia Dady, Coniston’s Ruskin Museum and Mr Campbell’s family have all been working hard to mark what would have been the icon’s 100th birthday on March 23.

Ms Dady will be releasing a song, entitled Twinkle in his Eye, highlighting the steely determination of Mr Campbell and his father, Malcolm – who were both seen to have ‘twinkles’ in their eyes when they were hatching plans.

The song will be played by the Ruskin Museum during a special event at which Mr Campbell’s daughter, Gina, will answer questions sent in by members of the public.

Ms Dady will be releasing an album on July 17. It will be named Bluebird after the hydroplane in which Mr Campbell broke records and later died.

It will contain eight tracks, including Twinkle in his Eye. The album will be released on July 17, during a week-long event held at the Ruskin Museum to show off Mr Campbell’s achievements.
