The Power of Nature

Members of BGKT Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) have found lockdown easier because of the valuable contribution of a member of the group who lives in the countryside, to photograph the natural world around her every day and to circulate the photographs to the group.

Our member has spent her time photographing her garden, plants and flowers through the changing seasons.

It was fascinating to see the changing seasons through her photographs.

Beautiful spring and Summer sun gave way to autumn colours and winter snow.

Every season has its own unique beauty.

We all found inspiration in her wonderful pictures.

Buddhism places great emphasis on living in harmony with nature in a relationship based on care, compassion, humility and respect.

Buddhism stresses the path to enlightenment involves restraint and simplicity. Looking at nature enables us to slow down and come into the present.

Buddhism explains the interconnectedness of all living beings and the environment and the importance of respecting these.

Buddhists should not take any life and should not destroy the habitats of other living beings.

Metta loving kindness meditation in Buddhism and mindfulness enable us to treat other beings with the same respect we have for ourselves.

Living in the country enable to see wildlife including the most wonderful murmurations of starlings.

At dusk flocks of starlings gather in the skies above their communal roosting sites.

They swirl, swoop, and turn making shapes in the sky as flocks merge.

BGKT Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) was founded in 1991, and will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2021.
