A FAMILY run deli has seen great success during its opening month - despite a 'little blip'.

The Deli @ 95 at 95 Highgate, Kendal, is run by Maxine Muir, who is assisted by her dad Mike Latham, and his wife Selma Latham.

Despite the raving reviews so far, the shop suffered a small setback when they believed they were a victim of a con.

They had warned fellow cafe owners on social media after the incident, writing: "It’s really saddening when a new business is ripped off. All you lovely people who own cafes etc in Kendal please be on the look out for a chap saying he found a hair in his food, aggressively insisting a refund I think he has managed to rip off two cafes this morning (us being one of them)."

Maxine Muir, 49, who is from Kendal said: "We've been up and running now for nearly three weeks and it has been going really well so far. We've made a few changes along the way - we had quite a few requests for salads so we have actually introduced a salad bar and launched that.

"It has been going really, really well and it is well supported so far."

The owner described the 'con' as a 'little blip'.

She said: "There was just that little blip but apart from that we have had a lot of repeat customers in such a short space of time which is really promising.

"There is a lot of great feedback from people as well.

"We are supporting all sorts of local suppliers which is our intention. All of our bread is purchased in from Lovingly Artisan, so our sandwiches are made on artisan bread, and all of our fillings that go in the sandwiches, the salads, everything is all purchased locally, using places like Dobsons for fruit and veg, and Appleby Creamery, Taste of the Lakes. We also do the beer from Hawkshead Brewery. There's so many more, we've got over 29 local suppliers that we work with.

"When we were refurbishing we took the two shops and knocked them into one, and we used local artisans. Our carpenter was local, our sign writer was local and the lady who did our chalkboard was local so we wanted to make sure we support local business as much as possible and promote local business and produce."
