A NEW golf captain has named a Cumbrian children’s charity as her cause of the year.

Elaine Wilson took part in Cockermouth Golf Club’s 2021 Captain’s Drive-in last week as she is set to lead the team’s ladies squad this year.

Wilson has also announced that her charity of the year will be Jigsaw, Cumbria’s children’s hospice.

The club has encouraged members and visitors to support Jigsaw if they can, as they provide daily care and activities for children in Cumbria who are living with a life-limiting illness.

Speaking of the charity’s vital work and her support of them, Wilson said: “I chose Jigsaw for my charity this year as during my teaching career I was involved with several families who would have welcomed the Jigsaw facilities being available to them, other similar specialist facilities are either in Newcastle or Chorley, a long distance to travel when you have a child who is extremely poorly.”

Cockermouth Golf Club at Embleton hosts a Ladies Mid Week Competition on Wednesdays from 9am until 11am.

The regular tee booking for ladies runs again on Sundays from 12 until 1.30pm.

A trial membership is available for those who want to get into the sport, costing £80 for three months of golf.
