A YOUNG pupil who set out to raise £100 in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore doubled her target.

Youngsters at Victoria Infant and Junior School, in Workington, were set a 100 Challenge, to be like Captain Sir Tom Moore and raise money in memory of the inspirational fundraiser.

Sophia Storey, from Scafell Pike class, decided to organise a tombola and raise £100 to buy flowers to plant in the school grounds to help cheer up others.

Headteacher Vicki Hepburn-Fish said: "Sophia wanted to recognise the resilience of Sir Captain Tom Moore and be like him in organising her own ‘100 Challenge’.

"She successfully raised £100 from her tombola, but then decided to continue - just like Captain Sir Tom Moore did.

"She would like this money to go towards buying plants and flowers for the school grounds so that when pupils and parents/carers walk into the school they will see the lovely plants and flowers and it will make them feel happy and smile.

"We are so proud of Sophia’s kindness and generosity and her friends that have supported her challenge."
