A MOUNTAIN rescue team gained seven new members after a group of probationers impressed during training at an accident blackspot.
The day spent at Piers Gill on Saturday was the culmination of more than a year's training for the participants.
The aim was to familiarise themselves with a notorious area and test what they had learned.
Exercises focused on rope work, safety lines and stretcher handling.
"They impressed, and we are extremely proud to welcome seven new full team members to our ranks," said a spokesman for Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team.
"Piers Gill is a steep ravine located close to Scafell Pike; and unfortunately the location of a number of serious, sometimes fatal, accidents in recent years.
"Rescues here require intensive resources from across the Lakes, and exposure of mountain rescue teams to extreme risks."
