THE husband and daughter of an Ambleside woman who died last month are setting off on a 100-mile journey in her memory.

Vernon Rigg and Laura Swainson plan to walk 10 miles a day for 10 consecutive days as a tribute to ‘our beautiful loving wife and mother’ Kathryn Rigg, who died on March 19 after a battle with cancer.

They will be raising money for St John’s Hospice, Lancaster and will be joined on some of the walks by Ms Swainson’s brother Daniel.

“We want to raise money to thank the hospice for the care and treatment Kathryn received while there and at home,” said Ms Swainson.

“The staff there have been a great support to all the family, and the care Kathryn received was second to none.

“The hospice has found it really difficult to do fundraising over the past year because of Covid, and they need funds more than ever.”

Mr Rigg, a respected painter and decorator in Ambleside, and Ms Swainson are planning 10-mile routes on various paths around the Lake District.

They have done a training walk at Arnside, a favourite spot of Kathryn’s.

Ms Swainson said donations would ‘mean the world’ to the family.
