A CUMBRIAN lake has been crowned as the UK’s most popular, according to new research.
Windermere came out on top as the most Instagrammed lake in the UK after research conducted by CarMoney.
The car finance comparison site used Instagram hashtag data to analyse 45 of the UK’s well-known lakes, lochs and reservoirs to reveal the ten most popular.
Ullswater, Derwentwater, Buttermere, Wastwater and Loweswater also made the top ten.
The comparison site also looked at how the rankings would differ if it compared how many Instagram posts each destination would have per km2 of water (area of each lake/loch/reservoir).
Buttermere was number one with 77,759 posts per km2 of water, Windermere second with 43,236 posts per km2 of water, Derwentwater third with 24,855 posts per km2 of water and Loweswater fourth with 16,890 posts per km2 of water.
