A MAN who was having difficulty breathing after falling on a mountain ridge was airlifted to hospital.
The 66-year-old suffered bruising to his ribs following the tumble on Helvellyn's Swirral Edge on Saturday.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team (PMRT) was called out to the incident at around 8.45pm. Due to the nature of the injuries, the assistance of the Great North Air Ambulance Service was requested.
A PMRT spokesman said: "As team members were ascending to Swirral Edge, the air ambulance helicopter managed to land at Red Tarn and was able to transport the casualty to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle."
