PAUL Crarey will be looking to use his whole Barrow Raiders squad as the League 1 side ready themselves for a gruelling league season.

Despite only playing three games this year, a Challenge Cup defeat to Oldham followed by friendly wins at Workington Town and Hunslet, Barrow have already suffered from numerous injuries.

Head coach Crarey has said these early casualties will lead to players slotting into unfamiliar positions.

He said: “We knew this would happen, it is just the way things are going at the moment.

“We have just got to deal with it and people need to prepare to play in different positions.

“We have done this already.

“At Hunslet our back-rowers Danny Toal and Jarred Stack ended up playing in the centre for long periods of the game.”

With Liam Saunders, Charlie Emslie and Sam Jones all impressing in pre-season, Crarey said last season’s dual-registration players could feature heavily during the 2021 campaign.

Crarey outlined: “I think our dual-reg players have been outstanding for us.

“That part of our squad did really well against Workington and Hunslet.

“We will probably have to call on them again during the season because no doubt the way things are going we are going to get a few injuries.”

Currently, Crarey has confirmed Danny Morrow, Jamie Dallimore and Ryan Shaw will miss the season opener on Sunday.

Crarey said: “Ryan is out for four months minimum. It is a real blow to the club because he was a strike player with tries and prolific goalkicker as well.”
