A TEST event at Barrow AFC’s new Fan Zone was a success, says Bluebirds Trust chairman Frazer Stewart.

Despite a hailstorm taking hold of Barrow on Friday afternoon, both the club and Mr Stewart say the weather did not affect a fantastic day.

Mr Stewart said: "It was a fantastic event, and it was great to see the Fan Zone in action.

"Hosting the test event was really useful for us in terms of ironing out any little snags but we were really pleased with the way it all went on Friday – even the torrential hailstones didn’t dampen the spirit!

"We are really looking forward to be opening again on Sunday and hope that people once again come out and support it."

A limited number of guests attended the Fan Zone.

Those who had sponsored tables at the new complex were also in attendance.

The club say a highlight from the afternoon was the grand opening of the Fan Zone, which is located behind Holker Street.

Jean Arrowsmith, the wife of AFC legend Brian, was invited to cut the ribbon.

Steve Herbert, Bluebirds Trust, says it was a "special honour" welcoming Jean to the Fan Zone.

He said: "Opening the fanzone with the test event was a wonderful success, despite the hailstorm in the middle!

"It was brilliant to see so many Barrow AFC fans coming back together for the first time.

"For some, it was the first time they had been out socially in over a year and shows what the club means to people.

"It was a special honour for us that Jean Arrowsmith, Brian's wife, opened it for us.

"Brian was a great player and a wonderful supporter.

"We look forward to the next test event this Sunday and an exciting summer of events."

The next event will be on Sunday.

Season ticket holders and Bluebirds Trust members will have already received an invite booking their tickets.
