A BELOVED village shop has seen a fundraiser begin for its owners after the announcement came that it would be closing after 30 years of business.

The Endmoor Village Store will close on Saturday, May 15.

It was owned and operated by Clive and Jane Dann who have decided to retire after three decades of trading.

The popular shop has been the primary local source for goods, food and as a newsagent for residents.

As well as a newsagent, the shop was also a grocery, tobacconist, off licence and National Lottery ticket agent.

The space is expected to be transformed into a kitchen showroom for another local company.

A local collection has started at the Endmoor Bakery for Clive and Jane.

A cake is being baked for a handover that will take place on Saturday at 4pm, the same day they will close the shop for the final time.

Mike Glover of Lakes & Bay Communications said: “Endmoor Stores has been a tremendous asset to the village and Clive and Jane have provided a fantastic service, particularly during the pandemic.

“Both they and the shop will be sorely missed.

“We wish them well for their retirement.”

The Endmoor Village Shop and its owners have been praised not only for their years of service, but were also regularly thanked for their hard work during the lockdown and the pandemic for continuing to provide services for elderly residents stuck at home.

Services such as newspaper deliveries continued throughout 2020 under restrictions.

Local resident and correspondent Roger Gorman said: "For many in the village the closure of the shop will be quite catastrophic.

"It has been a focal point over the years, and invaluable to the elderly and vulnerable during the pandemic.

"Those without cars will certainly be disadvantaged. The Bakery have offered to stock some essentials, but many villagers have used the shop for newspapers and emergency supplies."

"Newspapers will now have to be delivered from Milnthorpe, and many will miss their daily walk to the shop and a chance for social contact.

"Many are sorry to see this local loss of amenity, but wish Clive and Jane Dann thanks and good luck for the future."
