A LINE of Duty star has thanked Cumbrian NHS staff for their work as part of celebrations to mark International Nurses Day.

BAFTA nominee Tommy Jessop, who plays Terry Boyle in the hit BBC crime drama, recorded a video for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCFT)

The actor, who has Down’s syndrome, grew up in Cumbria and kicked off the trust’s week of planned thank you messages for its staff.

A trust spokesman said on social media: “Supporting those with learning disabilities is all in the ‘Line of Duty’ for our fantastic LSCFT staff.

“So, who better to thank them on International Nurses’ Day than LOD’s Terry Boyle – actor Tommy Jessop?

“BAFTA nominee Tommy has Down Syndrome and grew up in Cumbria.

“He filmed this video as part of our first-ever LSCFT Thank You celebrations.”

International Nurses Day, held on Florence Nightingale’s birth date of May 12, celebrates the amazing work of nurses across the world.

In the video Tommy, who was born in the Lake District, said: “Thank you so much for working with people with learning disabilities and changing lives.”

The 36-year-old has also appeared in Casualty, Monroe, Holby City and BBC One drama Coming Down the Mountain.

Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust has promised more familiar faces will be adding their messages to the campaign.

The LSCFT spokesman added: “We’ve planned a whole week of thank yous for our hard working staff.

“And, as part of it, we’ll be sharing videos from a host of celebs – from soap stars to sports stars and more.”
