Ambleside based Brathay Trust is inviting teams to reconnect over a mammoth rowing and running fundraiser in support of the charity’s work supporting vulnerable young people in Furness.

The RowRunner challenge sees teams of up to eight people row the full length of Windermere and back and each boat stops at three points to allow two team members to run up and down three fells overlooking the lake - Latterbarrow, Gummer’s How and Wansfell.

It takes teams between seven and ten hours to complete the course which starts and ends at Brathay Hall.

The 2021 event is Brathay’s eighth RowRunner and will take place on September 4.

The last was held in 2019 – raising £10,000 for the charity’s vital youth work.

Scott Umpleby, Brathay’s head of fundraising said: “This year’s RowRunner raises money for our Focus on Furness appeal supporting vulnerable young people with unstable or difficult family lives to build their confidence and self-awareness.

“It’s also about setting goals for education, training and work to help them to move on to independent living.

“It’s great to get businesses rallying around to help local young people – from putting forward a RowRunner team to raising funds for the appeal through employees, clients, partners, suppliers, and other community contacts.

“This is the fourth year that BAE Systems Submarines have sponsored the event, covering its cost and ensuring every £1 raised goes directly to help disadvantaged young people.”
