PLANS to modernise and extend a filling station to include a sandwich bar have been given the thumbs up.

A proposal submitted to South Lakeland District Council to expand the forecourt of Prizet Filling Station, Kendal have been given the green light.

The plans will maintain the existing use of the site but will add a sandwich bar, improved customer toilet facilities and a bigger space at the back of the store.

In the proposals Motor Fuel Group Ltd wrote: “The proposal comprises of a 120m² extension to the building, with re-aligned kerbing to envelope the extension and improve the existing HGV route around the site."

They added: "We are also installing a new shopfront, giving easy access to the store with an automatic sliding door and providing visibility into the proposed sandwich bar."

A new fenced of bin store area has also been included in the plans.

The extension will be in-keeping with the main building and will match the Bridgestone facade.

The proposals are the latest to be put forward for the site after an earlier application was rejected at the same location on the A591, when a larger design with 44 parking spaces was proposed.
