UNINSURED drivers and abandoned vehicles are being targeted by police and the council.

Cumbria Police and South Lakeland District Council have ramped up their efforts to identify those behind abandoning vehicles in Hallgarth, Kendal, during the last few weeks.

Police said the vehicles had been cluttering car parks, grassed areas and highways in the area.

“There is still much work to be done regarding trailers and caravans outside residents houses taking up valuable parking spaces and causing tensions in the community and anti-social behaviour," said a spokesman.

“We will continue to work with a multi agency approach to resolve the issues.”

Meanwhile, police say residents in nearby Burneside are growingly concerned by the amount of dog fouling in the area.

“The council can issue a Fixed Penalty Notice of £50 to anyone who fails to clear up after their dog," said a spokesman.

“The law states that being unaware a dog has fouled or not having a suitable bag is not a reasonable excuse.”
