HERE are the latest announcements from our community news correspondent Adrian G Faulkner for Bowness and Windermere.

The local 597 bus in Windermere will be resuming service on June 22, following its suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The bus runs on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings at 30 minute intervals, following a circular route round Windermere and North Bowness.

Amongst its stops are Booths/Station and Goodly Dale surgery.

The bus will stop both at designated bus stops and on request.

The Cumbria NoWcard is accepted.

For the last 6 years the bus has been supported by a group of local residents, the 'Friends of the 597'.

They are delighted that the service is resuming and hope that as many people as possible will make use of this local bus and keep the service running.

WINDERMERE Museum and Blackwell the Arts & Crafts house will offer half-price entry to National Lottery players who visit up to the 13 June.

Both venues have benefitted from National Lottery funding and will offer the discount to say thank you.

Visitors can get 50% off entry and 10% off food. As a bonus, visitors to Windermere Jetty Museum will get 10% off boat trips onboard the 91-year-old motor vessel Penelope II.

Anna Saczek, Senior Visitor Experience Manager, said: “We are delighted to take part in National Lottery Open Week.

“It’s been fantastic to welcome back visitors to both of our venues in the last couple of weeks."

Visitors must present a National Lottery ticket or scratch card at either venue to gain half-price admission.

Or they can book online at www.lakelandarts.org.uk using the discount codes: BWOPENWEEK (for Blackwell tickets) and WJOPENWEEK (for Windermere Jetty Museum tickets).

Blackwell is open seven days a week and Windermere Jetty Museum is open five days a week (closing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays) returning to a seven-day week during the summer holidays.

Windermere Jetty Museum opened earlier this month with a new season of family-friendly activities, uncovering the hidden treasures and sunken secrets of Windermere’s most intriguing shipwrecks.

Blackwell the Arts & Crafts house marks the Japan-UK Season of Culture with House of the Setting Sun; an exciting programme that examines the interchange of influence between Japanese design and the British Arts & Crafts Movement.

Visitors will discover a new exhibition of rarely or previously unseen objects including an exquisite hand-embroidered 19th-century Kimono, a collection of traditional Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints and a fascinating display of 19th- and 20th-century Japanese and British ceramics.

Children can explore the house to reveal Blackwell’s resident yôkai monsters, a family of mythical and mischievous creatures with peculiar traits and intriguing stories to tell.

WINDERMRE One Way (WOW) is a one-way long-distance swim of Windermere taking place on Saturday, 28 August 2021 (Covid restrictions permitting).

Entry forms and further information can be accessed on WOW's website at https://www.windermereoneway.co.uk.
