A DRIVE to support households in financial hardship due to the pandemic has been given a boost by the outgoing chairman of South Lakeland District Council.

Councillor Stephen Coleman donated the remaining £2,670 of his chairman's budget to Christians Against Poverty in Kendal, to aid their bid to restart Kendal CAP debt centre and employ a centre manager.

Cllr Coleman said: "At a time when we know that many households have faced financial hardship during the pandemic, it seemed appropriate to make a donation toward a charity that will help those in severe financial difficulties.

“Covid has accelerated the scale of those who are in debt and without organisations like CAP, people can face desperation and the complete breakdown of their lives."

"Helping people out of debt is so important.
