NINETY students at a Kendal primary school have been told to isolate after a positive Covid test was reported.

Stramongate Primary School has placed its year one and year two students into a protective bubble after a case of Covid was found.

The rest of the school is continuing as normal and no other cases of Covid have been found.

No other class rooms have been placed under protective measures, and no other schools in the area have reported any more cases.

This week has seen a significant proportion of children in schools across England decreasing in wake of the recent variants of the virus that have been reported in the country.

Around 88% of state school pupils were in class on May 27, down from 91% on May 20, according to the Department for Education.

As the UK's Covid vaccination rollout continues, an estimated 42% of the population has been vaccinated.

28.2 million people have been given two jabs of the vaccine, and Covid rates are continuing to fall.
