THESE are the latest cases heard at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court, Barrow:

- A MAN accused of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a woman has appeared in court.

Roger Armstrong is alleged to have cause the woman to fear unlawful violence in Lindale on November 28.

The 66-year-old, of Tower View in Lindale, denied the charge at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court and will appear there for a trial on August 2.

- THREE men were charged with offences including sexual assault and false imprisonment after an incident have been appeared in court.

A 32-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries having been found in the street on Sandes Avenue in Kendal.

Police said the following people had been charged with sexual assault by penetration, grievous bodily harm with intent and false imprisonment after the alleged incident on June 2.

Christopher Calvert, 43, of Garth Bank, Kendal

Jonathan Calvert, 35, of Stricklandgate, Kendal

And a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named because he is a youth

They appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates' Court in Barrow on Saturday.

The two men were remanded in custody.

A pre-trial hearing is to take place on July 9 at Carlisle Crown Court.

Police said three people aged 33, 34 and 38 had also been bailed pending further enquiries and a woman, 53, released under investigation.

- A MAN accused of escaping from prison has appeared in court.

Barrow man Daniel Carl Green was said to have escaped from Thorn Cross prison in Cheshire on June 4.

The 35-year-old is alleged to have jumped out of a window and ran through the grounds of the Warrington prison.

He was brought before South Cumbria Magistrates' Court after being charged over the alleged escape.

The defendant did not indicate a plea to the charge.

He is due to appear before Preston Crown Court for a hearing on July 9.

- A MAN who stole more than £2,000 from his employer over a four-month period has been ordered to pay the money back.

Liam John Kelly stole a total of £2,291.15 from Creamline Dairies between July 20 and October 12 2019.

At South Cumbria Magistrates' Court, Kelly, 38 of Kevin Gove in Morecambe, admitted the offence and was ordered to carry out 200 hours in unpaid work.

He was told to pay the full amount in compensation.

- A DRUG driver has been banned from getting behind the wheel for three years.

Jake Robert Cookson admitted that he drove a Ford Transit van with cocaine in his system.

South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court heard it happened November 6 on Hawkrigg Lane in New Hutton.

Cookson, 28, of Allithwaite, was fined £250 and told to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.
