A SERIOUS crash has led to the closure of a major Cumbrian road, say police.
The A590 has been closed in both directions between the A592 and the B5271 near Newby Bridge in south Cumbria due to a the collision.
Police are on currently at the scene though no further details of the crash have been released. The closure is expected to be in place for a few hours
Road users who are travelling westbound are advised to follow the solid circle diversion route:
* At Brettargh Holt join the A591 travelling north past Kendal
* Continue on Windermere Road (A591) towards Windermere
* At Windermere turn left into High Street towards town centre
* Take first exit at mini-roundabout and continue on towards Bowness via A592
* Exit Bowness and continue south on the A592
* Re-join A590 at Newby Bridge
Road users travelling eastbound are advised to follow the hollow square diversion route:
* At Newby Bridge roundabout take first exit onto A592 towards Bowness and Windermere.
* At mini-roundabout in Bowness take second exit onto the A5074 towards Windermere town centre.
* At junction of A5074 and A591, turn right onto A591 eastbound
* Continue on A591 past Kendal towards Brettargh Holt to continue your journey
Police say you should allow extra time for your journey if travelling in the area
