Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was saluted for his superb display as England buried their Germany hoodoo at Euro 2020.

The ex-Carlisle United loan man pulled off some outstanding saves before Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane gave the Three Lions a memorable 2-0 Wembley win.

Former England stars Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand were quick to salute the keeper, who excelled to keep out Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in the last-16 clash.

After the victory that sent England through to a quarter-final meeting with Ukraine, BBC pundit Ferdinand said of Pickford: "In an England shirt this fella seems to grow.

"He gets bigger, gets more confident.

"He controls situations by being big and standing as long as he can.

"In this tournament he has done that remarkably well."

Shearer also praised Pickford after the 27-year-old's fourth consecutive clean sheet in the tournament.

He said the keeper was "quick to react" in making an athletic stop from Havertz in the second half, after he had earlier foiled Werner.

The legendary striker said: "They were two hugely important saves."
