PLANS for more temporary speed indicators around Kendal have been proposed.

Kendal town council’s Environment and Highways committee met this week to support an extension to the town’s existing Speed Indicator Devices (SID) array.

This follows on from the installation of a new device on Milnthorpe Road, replacing a broken machine. Further locations around the town were proposed.

These are: Aynam Road, Appleby Road, Burneside Road, Sedbergh Road and Shap Road. Councillors looked at specific sites and noted that some required further work and permissions.

In the meantime the existing device will be rotated between Aynam Road and Milnthorpe Road.

A second device could be purchased to increase the frequency of coverage, and Councillors identified that this would require an additional budget allocation of up to £2800.

Kendal is currently leading the way in South Cumbria in getting drivers to slow down and this year declared that it aims to work with the counties highways to make Kendal a 20 mph zone in the future.
