THE GOVERNMENT announced yesterday that Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak would both isolate after meeting Sajid Javid, who tested positive for coronavirus.
When Mr Javid first tested positive, the Government said that Mr Johnson and Mr Sunak had been inducted to a pilot programme, where instead of isolating they would instead take part in regular testing along with 40,000 members of the public.
However, they met with a lot of criticism for this move. For most people, who have to isolate at home, it seemed like it was one rule for the Government and one for everyone else.
After backlash from both the media and the public, both performed a U-turn and said they would isolate as normal.
However, this wasn't enough for Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron, who said: "We are led by a character without character.
"The PM’s decision not to isolate, and then to U turn when the predictable backlash appears, conforms to a depressing pattern."
