PLANS to treat local people needing regular dialysis treatment has been discussed by Ulverston Town Council.

Town councillors plan to invite NHS England to a meeting to explain the new facility for dialysis, being built on the previous Sandside School site.

The new centre will form the basis of the new Ulverston kidney disease centre.

60 -80 patients a week, will be able to attend sessions without having to drive to Kendal Lancaster or Preston. Councillor Mark Wilson, who represents East Ward on Ulverston town council, is hopeful that the local treatment will start as soon as possible. He said: “This represents a very useful development for the treatment of and training for patients who self dialyse at home.

“Time saved staying local will aid their treatment.”
