Walkers can enjoy one of the Furness Peninsula’s most iconic coastal strolls and help raise money for a Cumbrian cancer charity, next month.

CancerCare is organising a guided walk across the sands of Morecambe Bay from Walney to Piel Island on Saturday, September 4.

Due to the tides and changing nature of the sands, chances to do this walk are rare and it will be led by local expert John Murphy, who will be on hand with anecdotes aplenty about the wealth of wildlife on show and the rich history of the island.

The walk will take around three hours and includes refreshments in the island’s famous hostelry, The Ship Inn.

Tickets are £10 and all proceeds will go to provide counselling and therapy for people affected by cancer or bereavement.
