THE vandals who trashed a pop up art exhibition set up in the town centre have been branded 'senseless'.

An investigation has been launched by Cumbria Police following a report that a shed - used for an art exhibition - had been vandalised over the weekend.

The shed, situated at the top of Market Street in Ulverston, was there as part of Coronation Hall’s Shed art event weekend.

The damage occurred between the late evening of Saturday July 31 into the early hours of Sunday August 1.

It was reported that the secured shed was forced open, causing damage and the art display within was disturbed by a group of people.

Police have confirmed that one man has subsequently been arrested for criminal damage at the scene and later released under investigation.

Dave Webster, Ulverston Town Councillor, branded the incident as 'senseless vandalism'.

He said: "It's just senseless vandalism. Ulverston Community Enterprise and Coronation Hall is trying to open up the town and bring back the festival atmosphere then someone destroys it.

"It's just mindless. I'm urging anyone who may have saw something to get in touch with the police."

The vandalised shed is one of three sheds placed across the town as part of an art exhibition led by Coronation Hall. The art exhibition is an intimate and interactive experience for people to enjoy in their own time and space in outdoor locations in and around Ulverston.

Residents were encouraged to donate their ordinary garden sheds for them to be transformed into creative, magical experiences.

The shed placed in Market Street was vandalised before it was able to open its doors.

However, bosses at the Coro Hall revealed on their social media that their team have been working hard to get the space fixed up and ready to open.
