Wordsworth Grasmere, home to Dove Cottage and the world’s greatest collection of William Wordsworth’s manuscripts, was recently the setting for a poetry event with Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage.

The entire event was captured to be broadcast online as a public ticketed reading on Tuesday, November 9.

Mr Armitage performed his own poetry in the heart of the new museum, against a backdrop of Wordsworth’s own words.

“I’ve been looking forward to reading in the new museum,” he said.

“The poems of our current age will always echo and ring with the poems of the past and reading my own work in such a setting is a chance to harmonise with one of poetry’s most powerful and lyrical voices.”

Michael McGregor, director, the Wordsworth Trust said: “It’s always a privilege for the Wordsworth Trust to host a reading by Simon Armitage, an unbroken tradition stretching back over 20 years.

“This year is extra special, as Simon will be the first poet to perform live in our stunning new Museum - the words of one Poet Laureate illuminating those of another.”

Tickets are £10.00 and are available from wordsworth.org.uk
