THE owners of a popular micro pub will be retiring after nine years of successful trading.

Gregg and Jules Beaman, owners of The Snug micro pub at Carnforth, have announced their plans to retire from the trade after recently marking their ninth year in business.

The Snug Micropub, located at Carnforth Train station on Warton Road, celebrated its anniversary on August 1.

The micro pub will be taken on by the Q-Brewery, who also own Taps on the Green in the town.

Gregg said: “We made the decision because we thought now was a good time to do it.

"We have seen a lot of people wait a bit too long before finally retiring and it can lead to health issues later on.

“We thought we would do it now while we still have our health and we can leave behind a great pub that will continue to serve as it always has.

“I remember in March we heard things were closing so we said we’d stay open as long as we were allowed. Five minutes after we announced that we were told that the Government was closing us that night. We never saw it coming.

“It was quite a shock.

“Peter and Ian at the Q-Brewery are good people and are very capable so there won’t be many changes to the pub in the way things used to be.

“Me and Julie are looking forward to travelling a bit. We took up archery before lockdown so we've got some bows and arrows that are still in their wrappings.

"I did a bit of writing before so I would like to take that back up, and Julie plays the piano very well. We'll have a few things to keep us occupied.

"Spending time with our parents as well was a factor in this decision so that will be good.

"Most of all just being on the other side of the bar and unwinding with our friends is what we're looking forward to the most.

"It's been a fantastic nine years and we've made so many close friends through this business."
