CUMBRIA County Council have announced that there will be a new week designed to get children to read more books.

Called 'Share a book every day', it will last for a week from Monday, October 11, 2021.

The council has made a website for people to learn more about how to read with their child.

On the website, a spokesperson for the Cumbria County Council wrote: "In Cumbria we want to promote 'Share a book every day' with early years children at home with their family and friends.

"Sharing books with children is fun, it can be a time for closeness, laughing and talking together and it can also help your child to become a lifelong reader and have a love of books.

"There is no right or wrong way of doing it and it is never too early to start reading to your child.

"Your childcare provider can help with resources to support you to read with your children in a fun and exciting way.

"Not everyone is confident at picking up a book, sharing a book and reading aloud.

"One thing to remember is that there is no right or wrong way of doing it and it is never too early to start reading to your child."

The week follows directly after Libraries Week, which is an annual showcase and celebration of the best that libraries have to offer.

On the official Libraries Week website, it reads: "In 2021, Libraries Week takes place between the 4th and 10th October, celebrating the nation’s much-loved libraries and the central role that libraries play in their community as a driver for inclusion, sustainability, social mobility and community cohesion.

"We want to celebrate how your library is taking action and changing lives."
