AN annual celebration of all things apple has been cancelled due to poor weather.

A spokesman for Ford Park announced on social media that the annual Apple Day in Ulverston has been cancelled.

The annual event was due to take place tomorrow, however, a spokesman revealed it would be 'unsafe' for it to go ahead due to the weather.

They said: "Sadly we have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel Apple Day this year.

"Although we were expecting poor weather this Saturday, unfortunately the weather has turned for the worse, with winds of up to 36 mph, which is unsafe for us to erect gazebos, and we are very reluctant to host the event indoors due to Covid.

"We are sorry to disappoint everyone. Apple Day is an important fundraiser for the charity, as well as a much-loved community event. We will aim for an apple extravaganza next year."
