SNACK-loving students, pupils and staff have raised a fantastic £2,608 for charity.

The 11 primary and secondary schools of the Cumbria Education Trust (CET) got together to support the annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Children from all year groups from Longtown to Tebay and Whitehaven to Brampton donated baked and bought goods and spent plenty of money during their breaks and lunchtime.

Some had so many donations they even arranged deliveries to local residents.

Organiser, CET Assistant Headteacher Nicola Tweddle, said: “We were overwhelmed by the generosity shown by all of our school communities.

"The cakes donated were amazing, it was a joy to see.

“Everyone really got into the spirit of the event and the purpose behind it.

"It was fantastic to see children from all year groups - and staff - involved.”

The first ever Macmillan Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. Since then, the coffee morning concept has raised over £290 million for Macmillan.

Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is the charity's biggest fundraising event in support of people living with cancer.

People all over the UK host their own coffee morning and donations raised on the day are made to Macmillan. The official date is Friday, September 24 but it can be held at any time. In 2020, the charity raised over £10 million and it hopes to top that this year.
