PLANS have been submitted to convert a former dentist into a tattoo parlour.

A proposal has been put forward to South Lakeland District Council to convert the upper floor of a former working men's institute in Market Place, Kendal into a tattoo parlour.

The building, which is currently empty and not in use, was previously used as an orthodontist.

According to the heritage statement attached with the plans, Samsara Custom Tattoos in Finkle Street, Kendal hopes to move into the vacant building if the proposal is approved.

It states: "We are a long-established business in Kendal and currently rent Finkle Street. Sadly, after seven years we feel we can no longer stay at our current premises

"The former working men’s institute would be the perfect new premises for us. It is already fitted for use as a (former) dentist's and would be perfect for our hygiene requirements.

"We do not need to make any structural changes to the interior of the building. We only need to paint the walls and update the flooring in the three main rooms."
