A KENDAL-BASED canoe club has been able to buy two new kayaks with the help of a grant from the town council.
Lakeland Canoe Club's new purchases were taken out for a spin in a game of 'canoe polo' at Kendal Leisure Centre on Monday evening.
Mike Powell, committee member at the club, said the £900 kayaks had been bought with the help of a 50 per cent grant from the town council.
Mr Powell invited members of the public to visit the club and have a go at paddle sports.
"The club runs skills sessions at Kendal Leisure Centre every Monday evening from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, and anyone who is a reasonable swimmer is welcome to give it a try," he said.
"The club is particularly keen on encouraging people who are interested in learning the exciting game of canoe polo.
"Please search for Lakeland Canoe Club on the internet to find out how to join or come as a guest."
Last week, the club organised a film festival in conjunction with Pyranha Sports.
The event took place at the Brewery Arts entertainment venue in Kendal and the audience was treated to an evening of films about paddling.
