CUMBRIA Police have experienced an 'extremely busy' summer following an influx of tourists.
Due to the sudden wave of visitors to the Lake District, a negative side was an increase in litter, a big impact on parking and police dealing with poor parking on many occasions.
Police were also made aware of several ‘sneak-in’ burglaries in Windermere, with thieves targeting insecure properties and vehicles where the doors had been tried, and any left open small items were removed.
The public were warned to lock doors and vehicles.
Reported incidents were up by 40% but overall crime was only up 3.7%, with several offences showing a drop in numbers.
Statistics showed that arson and criminal damage, (-4.2%), burglary, (-25%); vehicle offences (-40%); drug offences (-41%) and hate incidents (-30%) were all down on recent months, while there were rises in incidents of possession of a weapon, (+12%); public order, (+8%) robbery (+16%), sexual offences, (+30%) theft (+19%) and violence against the person (+10%).
