A renowned school Christmas festival will return in full force this December after two years since its last sell-out success.

Ulverston Victoria High School's annual Christmas festival will return to the Coronation Hall alongside the school's internationally-acclaimed UVHS Wind Band.

The annual concert traditionally sees the band and other musical groups play several pieces of festive music and carols as well as seasonal readings delivered by students from every year group through the school.

In 2019, students performed to a sell-out crowd and treated festival-goers to a wide selection of festive favourites, including a fiendishly difficult jazz arrangement of Rudolph! and The Pogues’ Fairytale of New York to the more traditional Sleigh Ride and Christmas Festival.

The concert was led by the renowned UVHS Wind Band, with an astonishing 94 musicians on stage.

Head of performing arts and assistant headteacher Richard Butler described the 2019 festival as 'amazing', with hopes this year's event will live up to the school's last live performance.

The event, which will take place on Tuesday, December 14, will be the wind band's first public event since December 2019 and the swing band's first public performance since January 2020.

Mr Butler added that the Christmas concert will be a 'big moment' for the school after two years.

He said: "It gives me very great pleasure to be able to inform you that the 2021 UVHS Christmas festival will be taking place in The Coro on Tuesday, December 14, with the main part of the event starting at 7.30pm.

"After 16 months of no music-making at the school (outside instrumental lessons) it has been an absolute joy to hear live music filling the corridors at lunchtimes and after hours.

"The last time the wind band, choir and instrumental ensembles played in public was December 2019 (although the swing band did manage to get out in January 2020), so this will be a big moment for all of us."
