PRAISE the Lord from the earth, your sea monsters and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and frost, stormy wind fulfilling his command. Psalm 148:7-8

Who is this that darkens my counsel by words without knowledge? Job 38:2

As the nation’s come together in Glasgow, we must remember that while we should be active in stewarding the resources we have been given and in caring for the planet, the Creator has not left the scene.

Job is clearly shocked when the Lord finally speaks.

Rather than complimenting them for their valiant attempts to analyse the situation and find a way forward the Lord instead points to the paucity of their knowledge.

He then goes through a kind of checklist of “who made this?” or “where you there when?” or “Can you do?"

With our modern understanding of science, we are constantly in danger of believing we can out-think our creator God.

He knew that we would mess things up - the incarnation and the cross show us how well prepared he was, from the beginning of time.

The whole of creation, Paul writes, is waiting in expectation that it “will be liberated from its bondage to decay” Rom 8:21.

So, let’s pray that COP26 will not be overshadowed by ‘words without knowledge’ but be graced by the counsel of the Almighty, Creator God who has all things at His command.

Let’s pray for an attitude of humility amongst all delegates.

That the wisdom from on high will have its entrance into the discussions.

All nations will come together to receive the counsel of the Almighty
