A TOWN council are appealing for residents to help to light up the town for Christmas.

Dalton Town Council and Dalton Community Action are urging the community to join in with the town’s Christmas festivities and to add to the new town lights by decorating their gardens and windows.

They have also asked homeowners to include a star in their windows like previous years.

Dalton Community Action will be awarding a prize for the best-decorated window display and will be awarding the best-decorated house.

Judging will take place right through December and winners will be announced in early January.

The usual town Christmas light switch-on has scaled down this year as coronavirus cases continue to spread.

Crowds would usually turn out to witness a parade pass through the town centre as it is transformed into a winter wonderland.

Dalton Town Council decided to cancel the bigger Christmas switch on event and instead settle for a smaller switch on at Tudor Square only for this year.

The Christmas lights have been redesigned this year and although the council said they have had some issues plans for a bigger and better event in 2022 will be staring soon but the council said they are confident that they are an improvement to old decorations.
