A KENDAL woman has admitted an offence of affray after an incident in the town.

Emma Barnes, aged 28, had previously pleaded not guilty to allegedly causing a man actual bodily harm assault. This arose out of an incident at Natland Road on November 1 last year.

Barnes, of Rinkfield, Kendal, was due to stand trial in front of a jury at Carlisle Crown Court today.

But when the prosecution added an alternative charge of affray after discussions behind the scenes, she admitted that offence as an acceptable resolution of the case.

Barnes’ barrister, Holly Nelson, asked for a probation service pre-sentence report to be prepared on the single mum.

“There are a number of reports which the defendant may wish to reply on,” said Ms Nelson.

Judge Simon Medland QC adjourned the case for background information to be gathered.

Barnes is due to be sentenced at the crown court on 14th January, and was granted bail in the meantime. One condition imposed by the court prohibits her from having any contact with prosecution witnesses.

Judge Medland said it was a “serious case”, adding that there would be “no promises” in terms of the ultimate sentence she would receive for the offence.
