(ABOVE) The building on Aynam Road is where the Wikinson Organ Works was sited.
Established 1829 by William Wilkinson and once described as England’s largest organ manufacturer, they merged with Rushworth and Dreaper of Liverpool in 1957.
They even exported to Barbados and Australia, but after trading for 139 years, building and installing instruments for churches all around Cumbria and the rest of the UK the business closed in 1968.
