A SIX-YEAR-OLD was thrilled after winning a top prize for completing a reading challenge.

Thalia Peacock, who attends Goodly Dale Primary School in Windermere, scooped the Kindle prize after completing the Summer Reading Challenge.

The challenge is a national scheme that runs over the summer break every year where children commit to reading six books over the holiday and receive a medal and certificate at the end of it.

More than 1700 children took part in Cumbria and of the 836 who read all six books Thalia was the one whose name was pulled out of the hat in the South Lakes area.

The Kindle prize was provided with money donated by the Cumberland Building Society.

Tina Smith, library outreach project officer for South Lakes libraries said: “Thalia was thrilled with her prize and is already setting it up to read books on!”
