A WOMEN from Kirkby Lonsdale has written her first book.

Caroline Elliot released her book called 'Fjords Mountain Mission' based around the life of a flat-coated retriever who lived a life that most dogs could only dream of.

Working and living on the Pyrenean mountains with his owner Caroline, the book invites you into Fjords world and shares important knowledge about how to keep yourself safe while enjoying snow sports.

For the book, Caroline didn't have to look far for inspiration, she said: "The book has been born out of real-life adventures of my dog Fjord, i worked in the French Pyrenean for about 10 years working in ski patrol with the fire brigade and avalanche rescue with the dog.

"The whole thing is a real-life typical day up the hill and at the same time through his adventures and what i do, the children learn about safety and ecological gestures."

The aim of the book is to keep children safe and educated even before they arrive at the resorts.

Caroline's book has already been endorsed by the International Ski Federation and The International Ski Patrol Federation.

The idea for the book came around during the pandemic, before the pandemic Caroline used to go into local schools educating children so they have a better experience in the mountains whether that be in the Lake District or abroad.

Caroline said: "I thought i can't go into schools so how can i reach children in another way."

The Westmorland Gazette:

Unfortunately, Caroline's dog Fjord died just before lockdown, so Caroline also saw this book as a great opportunity to mourn the loss of her companion.

Caroline is also using the book to empower women by including female figures throughout her book and showing that there are women working in the industry.

Whether or not Caroline plans to write another book, she said: "Yes there is going to be a series, there will also be an early learning version of the book done next year."

The book 'Fjords Mountain Mission' is out now and available in Waterstones and all good book stores.
